    Job Cuts for today...

This is just a few of the press releases.

My thoughts on this are twofold.

    1. There are a lot of workers who are not pulling thier weight. I have seen this all the time and many hard working conscientious people pull more than their fair share. This will shake that tree a bit. If employers would cut according to the attitude and production (which needs to be reciprocal on management levels I might add)...this may not be so bad. It will force those who are on the dole to pony up.

    2. If you are getting cut from a job, the only thing I can say as I am in the private sector entrepreneurial area where working 1 hour at government work loads probably equals about 4 for the same price. I put in more hours for less return, as many private business owners do. (not all, as some have a niche market that produces more opportunities to hire those with skills to support thier goals). Mainly my point: The strong will stay strong and if you are weak, depression, fear, resentment, and a general malaise will conquer the spirit.

It is time to get strong. You will know best what you are made of and who you truly are, how you put your faith and beliefs into practice (not lip service) by perserverance. Not matter how horrible and miserable it becomes.

The weak will fall and the strong will continue to move forward. It is going to be as simple as that. People will become far more creative at thier pursuits, probably have to work harder, become more competitive and it will be a change of lifestyle. Many comforts that used to be taken for granted will now be coveted.

Well, anyhow, that's how I'm going to approach this economical downturn...

    Stay steady....

i work for target in one of there distribution centers. they ddnt explain why there laying off the 600 team members at headquarters im guessing it was from not meeting expected growth and now changing the for cast of how fast the company was gona grow.

that distribution center was shut down for a bunch of reason. the main reason was it was built 30 years ago and not strategically placed. there for it was costing us a fortune to transport goods to the stores then is we used other dcs. on the other side of it the building was an older less efficient design. yes the design and lay out of the buildings makes a huge diffrence in the building production.

we have 2 brand new distribution centers opening this year and will start the hiring process next month. all team members from the the little rock Arkansas plant will either have a extensive separation package or have the option to move to another distribution center. i dont think its an immediate close i think it will happen in the next 6-7 months if i remember.

Shawn great post! This is a hard time for me this year im already a college graduate with a degree in industrial maintaince and im about to graduate again this fall with a degree in business management. Im only working part time and trying to look for a full time job in a business(perfect timing huh?) I've almost made the decision where I want to continue my eduaction since there are zero jobs around me where I would qualify(all the business in my area want is people with work experience). I've thought about opening my own business but with the economy this bad i might just wait a while. I'm hoping things turn around for the good.

Not more than 6 months ago our newspaper would always have about a page and a half of help wanted ads. Now your lucky if there is a column and a half.

It's really getting bad in this area.

this is just a recommendation. in your college they should have a job placement center or something similar to that. they usually have good connections with a lot of businesses and alot of businesses like to turn to the colleges for people. try and find an internship if you can to a job or coropration you like to get your foot in. if you work hard and do good work they will take you on full time 90% of the time.

i suggest looking into target to they like to higher young managment. most of the managers at my distribution center are between 24-30. most are more towards 24.

+1 That's how I got my current job. I worked an internship (no pay) for a year while I was in school and they offered me a job once I graduated.

Another advantage is, you get the opportunity to check out the company and management to see if you are a good fit for them, and they are a good fit for you.

Thanks for tips stingray...our college has that kind of job searching, it's mainly a internet site with job postings..I've been keeping my eye out for jobs for the past couple of months but with no success.

The trend with most of these companies nowadays seems to get rid of the the old and hire the new for less as well Eric so you have that going. Would stink to get a job that way but hey, you are the only one watching your back. Its a dog eat dog world.
