Amazing to think the job market changed so much in such a short time frame.

Whether it is pointless or not more depends on what you do with the tech knowledge you accumulate, and the perspective it provides you for the next steps.

If you use each thing you learn as a base to continue learning and accelerating your understanding of related and inter-related technology and the fields they populate, then you can really get somewhere.

Quite some time ago, I learned that every few years, 1/4 or 1/2 half (I forget which ) of what I knew about technology would become redundant. And it is mostly true. I have lost count of the number of generations of computer and electronics technology I have lived with, and outlived.

I really have forgotten more about technology than...
But, I still touch and connect with knowledge that I gained years ago, and find current applications for the insights and techniques developed back then.

The trick is to keep on learning, re-inventing yourself.

If you can find better ways to do what you do, or will be doing, or make what you do more efficient, or even better, displace it with a better way, and make yourself part of that better way, you will do just fine.
