    Unhappy MSX150 turbo woes

help me please, the waste gate has seized up on the 2004 model. Can that part be replaced without changing the whole turbo unit. I heard this is a common problem with these skis. must be a design flaw.

This is do-able...just takes some patience.

My MSX 150 wastegate 'froze'...and I tried a bunch of fixes. I heated the lever...soaked it...and worked it back and forth for, seemingly, forever!

What finally worked, turned out to be pretty simple.

First...unscrew the actuator rod...you only need to be working on the gate lever, without any bellows resistance.

I cut off the hemmed end of my wife's favorite kitchen towel (hush!)...wrapped it around the lever (stuffed under, all the way around)...mixed a concoction of Liquid Wrench (liquid from the bottle version, not the aerosol) 50/50 with Mobil 1 0-40W synthetic oil...soaked the rag...and let it sit for several days. Put the Vise Grips on the lever, and worked it back and forth. Soaked the rag again (important to keep the rag wet)...and waited, again. Kept this up, until the lever would move by hand.

Then...I took the ski to the water. Soaked the rag (it stays there 24/7, now)...worked the lever a few times...and ran it hard. Beached after a while...more concoction...and worked with hand...and back on the water. I soak the rag after every outing now...and I have had no problems.

The tolerances around the waste gate shaft are so close, that if you don't use the saturated rag, the lubrication doesn't remain in position long enough to make it down the entire shaft.

Don't give up! Give the above a try...and see what happens!

Want to see where that shaft goes?

Here is the waste gate that the shaft 'open's....

And...a big 'welcome' to the forum!
