    1200 1300 waterbox - final word?

    Hey guys,

I have my 1300 torn down to chase a flipping water leak, and have the following options available to me when I put it back together:

    1. 1300 stock wb/exhaust/ss
    2. 1300 stock wb/riva blue ff tube
    3. 1200 stock wb/1300 exhaust/ss
    4. 1200 stock wb/riva blue 1300 ff tube.

I'm currently running 7300rpm on a 14/20 dynafly (one out for repitch with Impros)

Racing this ski at the Hahn in 2 weeks - 300 miles at WFO?

What do the HP gurus say is the best overall setup?

    Thanks in advance,
    Sean

This is a blerb from a PM I got from a top tunner

the 1200 waterbox doesn't have the wart looking box on the side of it like the 1300 waterbox does. By not having the "wart-looking" 1300 box, the 1200 box creates more backpressure. So adding the FF to the 1200 box will give you your hole shot without hurting top end (and sound mean as hell too).

Even Better. If your running a 1300cc engine, you can you the waterbox from a 1200 boat and put the FF on it and not lose anything on top(and also have an improved holeshot).

The engine needs the backpressure.....but not too much and not too little.

Here are the results of the different combos:

    1) 1200 boat with 1200 (original box) + stock sound supression = limited hole shot with good top end.

    2) 1300cc engine with 1300 box + FF = good hole shot with 1 mph loss on top.

    3) 1300cc engine with 1300 box (original) + stock sound supression = limited hole shot with good top end.

    4) 1300cc engine with a box from the 1200 series + FF = great hole shot with no loss in top speed.

now WFO said to put the stock sound supression back for the best preformence. I allredy had the 1200 box so i tryed it. I gained 25 to 35 rpm. I plan to try the stock system but i need to get a new hose.

On a 1300 I would expect the 1300 waterbox with the sound supression installed would give the highest top speed.

Not sure about the exact difference if you were to use the 1200 waterbox instead.

But if you use a FF, with either waterbox you will be slower on top.

IMO on a ported EFI 1300 with timing and compression, you better run a freeflow or you can stick a piston, no matter which box you use

    2 waterboxes

Nope - news to me about 2 versions of the 1300 box. I'm guessing they changed in 05 with the removal of the PVs and changes to the exhaust?

Regardless, is there a practical gain to the 1200 box in a 1300, with the 1300 SS installed? My motor is NON ported, NO timing key; just a cut head to 145psi, Reeds, and Race Filter.

I have both boxes on the floor; either one can go back in. Just thought I'd get input as to which choice to make.....

    Thanks,
    Sean

i run a 1300 top end with 1200 wb and FF without any ill effects, hole shot is ok and top speed mid 70's ( but suffering shoe related drag issues) , max rpm is 7230rpm with a 14/22 in 25 degree heat. any hotter and it drops to about 7100-7150. Thats also with leaking gas valves so there is more in her once thats fixed.

    with a 14/23 it dropped to 7050

that was with an advent t3, vf3, 140psi head comp, novis, 1200 grate and a full tank, gas vas valves (pv motor) etc....

after doing a bit of research WFO explained the deto risk and it made sense to follow his advice, after all why spend that sort of coin and risk sticking a piston.

ps: it sounds awsome especially at 7 in the morning
