ok so im thinking about buying a 96 xp for the girl friend

guy wants 1000 for it says there is only 15 hours on a rebuilt sbt motor went and checked the compression and it was 125 front and 120 back? what compression should be safe? theres no way to check hours unless you hook it up to the dealers computer right?
    thanks

those numbers sound low. it should be around 150 psi. for the hours. you can only tell how many hours are on the MPEM not the motor. the MPEM may say 200 hours even if the motor has supposedly 15 hours

yea thats what i was thinking as my 2000 xp had like 145 on each when i got it. and my luck with sbt hasent been the greatest as the last motor i got from them lasted about 45 hours and 13 months before it blew again.

that seems low, however it could be your gauge.
do a test on a known good ski, like yours to determine what good readings are.
example, you know your ski is good, but it only reads 110 and 110.
then if this unknown ski is also reading 110 and 110, you know its ok.
you do realize a SPX is a splashy tippy ski???
    most girlfriends wont like that.

It does really depend on the girlfriend. If your girlfriend is athletic, she'll love it. My cousin is 44 and bought hers new in 96, and wouldn't have any other ski. She has UMI and Worx sponsons, JD grate, and GPS's 58.2 box-stock with me (185lbs), and over 400 hours on the engine.

That is a cheap price! I had a 97xp before my 96xp and i hated it. I traded straight up for the 96xp and never looked back. See if he will go down in price, show him your gauge lol.

Most likely the gauge is off but the important thing is the numbers are close. Find out when he put the motor in, it may still have a warranty. All in all those are great handling ski's, fun in the surf and really all round one of the best watercraft ever made. And that is a very good price, so go for it.
