    skat 14v setback

Just bought a 14v set back and shaft and took off the cone to inspect the oil and noticed that the shaft stopped to the end of the bearing. I noticed that on other shafts that it is an inch past the bearing and locked with a nut preventing the shaft from moving forward, are skat-trak pumps and shafts different?

Hey If you get a chance.... could you please measure the distance between your stator and your impeller. This is something I need for a theory I have been working on..
If you have feeler gauges it would work best...

    YES,
they are different. The setback pumps have specialty made driveshaft by Skat track.

On the end of the shaft, they have a shoulder, whereas your stock Yami pump OR Skat magnum pumps use the stock Yami shaft.

I'll take a picture... that will simplify it for you.

The stock shaft pushes out from the front.
The Skat setback shaft pushes out from the rear.

The distance between the blades and the stator.
See last year I was running a 14/24 df by IR and did a upgrade on my pump to the HO 05 pump and bearings. My speed went down, from a 14.5/ 25 concord and old style pump.
My rpms where 7390 at 76 mph.
I pulled out the washer betwen the pump stator and the impeller and my speed increased to 77 mph. I have had people tell me that the distance should be 2.5-3mm between the blades and the stator. mine is like 6mm . I have a lathe and the collet to machine my impeller to what ever clearance I need. But I wanted a referance.

One time I shimmed my impeller forward (toward the front of the ski) by .010 and it was a monster in the chops. IT really bit hard. My rpms dropped by 150.

Knowing this I KNOW that It may be the "MONKEY with the wrench" (ME) that may not have some thing correctly spaced in my pump when I converted it.
last fall I was running a DF 14/24 at 7400rpms doing 77.6 mph... with that impeller I should be doing 80 at 7100-7200. so I am just thinking my self to death on it.

any pics would be great. my e-mail is [email protected] if you want to send them direct to me. save bandwith on the server here? it is good any way, I just want a look!
