slx 780 "gearing up" for summer rebuild

hey guys, we had a nice 78 degree day here in florida so i took advantage of the day busted off the ski for the first time in 2 months or so and ran it . After i put it back on the trailer , i noticed there was a lot of water in the ski and had to find out what the deal was . i took the seat off and ran it aging . FOUND IT . under full throttle water was pourrrring from the exhaust manifold and the header gasket.

soo... i have had the ski for a year and a half with little troubles out of it so i decided do a complete rebuild.

any one have any ideas while i have the ski torn down to make this thing a 60+ ski . it did do 55.3 mph on gps . ... ?

SLX was pretty pimped out from the get go. Not much to do other than triple pipes, ported cyls, and bigger carbs.

Try truing the hull for a little more "free" top speed.

Could also see if an Adjust A Thrust will gain you a little top end.

That's about all i can thiunk of to gain more top speed.

Most bilge cleaners I have tried were too weak to do much.

This thread talks about using a mixture of Simple Green and Bleach. Just take appropriate safety precautions.

Well k447 i gave your mixture a try , along with every other thing i had, and it came out ok . i got most of the gunk out the bottom which is what i really wanted , but it didn't come out as good as some of the others i've seen on here.

i also started to polish the heads , which i had seen a post awhile back where someone did this .. does any ony remember who it was, i think he also polished the header pipe.. ??? i would like to find out what steps he went through.

i started by hitting them with some super fine sand ran through the sand blaster.

Pretty sure it was Zmann that polished his top end.

Well the progress continues, after some thinking i desided not to polish the heads . wayyy to much of a pain . instead i had the heads and the top cover of the ocean pro f/a powder coated the same color -- silver explosion with a starlite clear , Im very happy with the way they turned out. although its hard to really see the real effect with the camera.

    carb issue ?

when i was going through the carbs i had noticed some build up on the pto carb, not to sure on how it got there but i know it wasn't hindering the ski last time i rode it. here is some pics of it .

anyone have a clue on what has going on or do i need to just put her back together and make sure the fuel sys. is clean?
