hey, I have a 96 slx 780 and the mfd is reading low fuel causing the ski to go into limp mode. The fuel tank is full when it reads this. what could be causing this?

Search for threads regarding the fuel float not floating (sinking).

You can buy replacement Polaris floats from several sources, and Watcon sells a fuel sender repair kit.

You can check which float part number you have using the Polaris parts cross reference web site.

You can find the Polaris Factory Service manuals here.

Contact Randy at Watcon.com and buy the replacement fuel float for around $22.

Then swap the good with the bad and have fun.

ive got the new float ordered but I realy want to ride this weekend. I know there are wires that I can tinker with to bypass the limp mode but which ones?

You can pull the grey wire from the cdi to dis-able limp mode, but I'd recommend bypassing the fuel sender w/ a 33 ohm resistor between the pink terminal and black in the e-box. That way if it overheats or oil is low, it will still go into limp mode to tell you that you have problems.

Yes. The grey wire from the mfd gives the signal to the cdi to limit rpms. All other functions on the mfd will still work.

Star is right. Go to Radio shack and get a 33 ohm resistor for $1.15.

Then install it in the elec box between the fuel sender wires.

Easy fix, and it will get rid of low fuel while still retaining the MFD functions.
