    ZXI 900...any common problems?

I'm picking up a 96 ZXI 900 that needs the top end of the engine rebuilt. Are there any common problems with the engine that I should address in the rebuild? Any other advice on things I should do during the rebuild? I've been around Seadoo and Polaris jetskis for several years, but this is the first time diving into a Kawasaki.

Check the bottem end too. If a piston has come apart, chances are your cases will have been damaged as well.

are you in WI? where abouts? i am in janesville.

let me know if i can help out.

the 96 ZXi's were really very good machines. the 98-later ones had the CV carbs, and were known to be hard starters.

be sure to find out what caused the sngine failure, and fix it before running wth the new motor, or you will be right back where you are now.

So, I went and looked at the 900, and it was in pretty rough shape. The engine was taken apart, and the hull was in overall poor shape. The guy also had a basically new Skidoo snowmobile in his yard with a homemade nitrous setup on it. That in itself made me pretty hesitant to buy anything from him. I have a feeling that 900 may have been neglected pretty well. In the end, I did not buy the 900. I guess I'll keep looking for a project.

first thing i would do is pop open the ebox and take a look. every zxi i get in the shop has water in it. those plastic nipples that your wires go through usually break and they end up with water in them and get corroded as well as your triangle trim system box in the front.

    good engines though
