i hear ya , but buds isnt just a code reader they need to come up with some diagnostic program that doesnt access the key programming as thats what they are trying to protect and so they should or stolen skis will be able to have a key made!
i use buds at work and brp wont let us have another unit to take with us racing as when away from the shop its hard to test.

Is it not just a computer program? If its a program someone should be able to copy it.

it's alot more than just a computer program... the MPI is pretty unique, the activation codes, they continually expire and need re-activation..

so if you buy all the needed modules and wires and cables for almost a thousand bucks.... dont waste your money unless you have a connect to get renewal activations periodically as the software gets locked out and needs updating and reactivation

Some one wrote that program so I imagine that some one can defeat that part of the system. Someone with more computer skils than me of course. If this some one exists I also need the new mercury outboard software defeated in the same way.

well i do know this guy who has buds. the way he keeps the password from expiring is by having it on a computer where the time is set back manually before the experation date. something to think about

    I am not a lawyer

For the most part, copyright is a civil law matter.

That means the copyright holder needs to pursue you in civil court, not criminal court. If the matter gets into court, the court decides whether the penalty (usually money) requested by the copyright holder is reasonable, and whether there has in fact been a copyright violation.

Often, copyright infringement ends with a letter from the company requesting you to stop infringing, and the matter ends there (presuming you comply). Unless the company feels it needs to make an example out of you, and files a lawsuit anyway.

The DMCA probably doesn't apply, unless you start distributing the copyrighted software.
