93 SL 650 no spark problems

Hi everyone, as you could guess i am new to this forum and new to pwc, really. I had acquired a 93 SL 650 a while back running but not well thought it might just need carb adjustment. Got it home and about a week later it ran ... ran ... dead (this is in my drive way keep in Mind). My dad and i noticed no cylinders ere getting spark. we have since acquired manuals and still no luck. Heard you guys are where its at about polaris, anybody got any ideas?

    Welcome to the Hulk!

You say you have manuals. Have you seen the Polaris PWC resources that are located here.

No spark can be caused by several things.

First off, make sure the battery is delivering at least 10.5 volts while cranking the engine. Any less than 10.5 volts means the battery is too weak. Re-charge or replace.

Make sure the safety lanyard is in place on the stop switch.

Have you worked through the tests and checks outlined in the Polaris Service manual?
Stator coil resistances, ignition coil primaries, etc.

What tests and checks have you done?

    Welcome to the Hulk.

First, check to see if the lanyard is installed.

Check battery connections are clean and tight on both ends. (battery and engine)

Is the battery fully charged and in good working order?

Is the reset (circuit breaker) tripped on the top of the elec. box?

Is the kill switch grounding out? Open the elec box and disconnect the kill switch wires from the board. (make note of there position before pulling them off) You can kill the engine by applying the choke.

Once the box is open, check the coils for a short circuit.

If all that passes, try removing the spark plug boots by unscrewing them from the wires. Cut the wire back about 1/4" to expose fresh wire, rescrew the boots back on and sceure them with a zip tie.

If it still doesn't have spark at this point, try replacing the CDI with a known good one as there is no testing a CDI.

Sorry it took me a few days to get back...

i just took a look at my ski and spoke to my father.
We have to get it all uncovered and out of the back yard to start doing more work on it...

I pulled the battery and am proceeding to check it and charge it (it was new last time we worked on it so we will see).

I will get back to you guys in a few days when i know more.

    Thank you again so much!
