I got some dirty valves!...and question

I just bought 2 96 XP's that are in mint condition. They were owned by a 65 year old lady who liked to putz around her lake house with her sister. Anyways, I just finished cleaning the RAVE valves, and that was a chore! I know they had never been cleaned before since the paint on the screws was intact. One machine had 1 green bellow and 1 red below. The other machine had 2 red belows. The green is the updated design, correct? Shouid I plan on replacing the red bellows? It was wierd that the valve with the green bellow was the dirtiest. Anyways, here's a picture of what the valves looked like. I had 4 of them to clean!

The reds, or the greens will work just fine, don't worry about it.

The reds will open sooner, as you can feel they are more flexible. I'd get on more green to have a matched set on a ski. If the other two reds aren't leaking, keep using them. Also change those orings used for stops, if they are brittle. Look at the stem of the RAVE you have in the pic. If this stem is excessively worn, it will rattle and cause the bellow to leak. This is probably why they had replaced the bellow, in attempt to stop the leaking. And the housing may need replacing too.

If you read what he wrote, the motors have never been taken apart. I doubt it has 97+ slotted raves. I guess stranger things have happened.

One of the skis has had a RAVE bellow replaced. It had 1 red and 1 green bellow. What exactly are the slotted RAVE valves? I think the number stamped on my valves is 352.

On a positive note, even though the machines have grey fuel lines, all the carb filters were clean! I siphoned out the old gas, put in some fresh premix( until I know the oil pumps are working), and both machines fired with less than 2 seconds of cranking! I'm impressed since the temperature was 30 degrees! They should start beautifully once they get in the water. Damn, I can't wait until summer!

The 352's are the old flat-style valves. 353's are slotted.

    Congrats on them firing up!
