Throw the ss ring in the freezer for a few hours... it will drop right in! As far as removing the stock ring... there are many ways. I use a soldering iron and melt a groove in it, comes right out in about 2 minutes

I put the entire pump in the freezer for a good 8 hours and then the ring will just come right out.

To install the new ring put in the freezer for some time and it should then go in with no problem. In fact you can install the new ss without putting in freezer with a nice flat board and rubber malet to force in pump.
