Riva or R&D ride plate for FX160 HO

I have a 2004 FX160 and was comtemplating putting on a ride plate but do not know which is the better option.
I have haerd that you have to sand or file them to fit is that correct?
If you do then won't they corrode or rust?
Does the original speedo still work properly - I do not want to loose this option if possible but the gain of speed and handling is always a strong temptation!
Also would like to know the same answers to the above questions for an intake grate.

Does anyone have any experience with these mods?

Can anyone give me any info at all?

    Thanks
