Any way to test a XLT 1200 Gauge without it running?

I have a non running XLT 1200 that I would like to see if the gauges work..however I was told the ski has to crank over in order for the gauges to come on? This true? Motor is locked up so thats not an option right now. Wasn't sure if I could pull the connector apart and provide power to a certain pin maybe. Thanks!

The green wire and the ground have to see some A/C voltage while there is 12v DC to the red wire and ground.

Sounds complicated, but it isn't. Being in the transmision business I use a Ford speed sensor to provide the A/C wake up voltage.

Hmm..so how would I go about doing this? Basically you are saying the stator has to be turning, providing the A/C voltage in order for the gauge to "wake" up? I guess I could always pull the one cylinder off and crank it..would just have to find a way to keep the rod from flopping all over.
