    Question The "run away ski"?

I just had this happen to me for the second time and wondering what causes it? Even when i pull the key it won't shut off!!! Will it happen on the water? That might end up ugly.

    Runnaway Ski

    Hey,

On the yamaha's we call that glow plugging. Stuff a rag in the exhaust or put your hand over exhaust and it should shut down.
This could be caused from an air leak , guess would be carbs. Oh yah, under load like in the water this probably would not happen but fix it first we dont want anyone hurt...

Pull the choke and it will die. The run away is caused by a super lean condition, it doesn't even need a spark to run. Choking it will add more fuel and the engine will stop dieseling.

You must have a 951? They are the most likely to glow-plug. Rob has your scenerio down...always pull the choke when it starts climbing above idle rpm.

    Oliver...

You just rebuilt the carbs right? What are your high and low speed screw settings at. Your too lean, or your idle is set too high, or both. Try opening up the low speed screws 1/8-1/4 turn and see if that calms her down.

If that ski "runs away", pull the lanyard and hold the throttle WIDE open. it will shut off.. Scary when that happens huh?

You can always call me too.. Free tech advice with the purchase of any ski lol.

Don't over look the throttle being part open due to too much tension on the throttle cable. I did that one on the 96 XP
