    Exclamation Kawasaki 550 Upgrades?

I have a Kawasaki 550 reed motor jet ski. I was wondering what the best upgrades would be for it. Dual Carbs 38mm/44mm/ port and polish? i still want to be able to run 92 octane pump fuel though.

There are a lot of things you can do. 1st you need to get a decent stainless prop. The pitch can vary, i like the 15 or 15.5. Next a good half pipe like factory brand or coffmans. If you want to change carbs you could try the mikuni 44sbn. This will need an aftermarket intake to make it fit. There is all kinds of info about this over on pwctoday.com

Dual carbs are a bit of an overkill on a 550, a good single 44/46 will provide more than enough flow. A aftermarket head to bump the compression up to around 185psi will give you a lot better punch but still allow you to run pump gas. A good port job will help but also keep your eye out on ebay, good pjs and aftermarket cylinders can go pretty cheap on there. Or just save your money and invest in a 750 conversion, your power potential will be far higher in the long run.

you can advance the timing my 440 550 has

    advanced timing
440 bottom end 550pp top end
44 sbn with prok air filter and primer
milled head with copper head gasket 155psi
coffman complete exhaust long pipe with coffman manifold and mariner waterbox
    skat 15.0 prop
west coast ride plate and intake
    bigger venturi nozzle
440 pump with bulkhead support bracket
also the cylinder was ported by Mike Melby im told, my ski rips pretty good for a 550 it's alot of fun.

biggest things to do first,, pipe(about 100) and sbn44 carb (about 100 will need a different cable and intake or a intake spacer about 44) 46 carb over kill
after market f/a then work from there with everthing else.

milling the head down will allow for 92 or higher.. actually it will require a higher octane or carbonizing of the head and the piston heads will occur.

Single 44/46,as mentioned above, mild porting(go wider, not taller),aftermarket reeds,SS 15 prop, half pipe,"pull" mesh out of waterbox, add extra pisser(use same dia hose thats used with stock pisser)you dont want to dry out the waterbox too much, half pipe, lighten flywheel, adv timming,go easy on milling the head, thinner head gasket, then the usual, grate, plate, proper carb tunning(pay close attn to pop off),etc.
Iv'e have the same set up & have no problem staying "competitive"
If your water has heavy chop, don't go for the "top end",stay low
