Just grabbed up an dead X4
Just picked up a 1996 SPX thats been sitting dead for the past few years.
Owner said motor is blown.
Ski is complete, but nasty.
Sun has killed the seat, but everything is still there.
Bottom looks really good for its age.
Only minor wear on the gelcoat.
Came with a nice galvanized single trailer.
Felt like I just couldn't pass it up.

well even if u parted out the ski, you ended up with a free trailer with the money you got from parting it out..

It does have a 717.
Does the motor change the hull class?
Its exactly the same hull as my '97 SPX except in color.
Maybe I don't know................!!!!!
Still, thought it was well worth it!

If it has the black trim tabs on the bottom at the back of the hull it is an X-4. The '96 SPX is basically a '95 XP (which had a 717). It is an X-4 (or, a '95 XP was, anyway).
Check for the tabs.

I saw a 96xp that was beat to hell, not running cosmetically
shot sell on ebay for $450... so who knows. Id put it on there for $250 with no reserve and let it ride. Sell the trailer for $200 to someone and even if the ski sells for opening bid youve made nearly $400 with zero effort.
In response to your original statement- yes, it was too good to pass up. even the trailer is worth $200

The hull is EXACLTY like my '97 SPX except color.
If they were painted the same color, you would have to look inside at the motor to tell the difference.
Referring to the trim tabs, it does have them (SeaDoo parts diagram calls them stabilizer plates).
I do not have any plans to part her out.
I know that is the best way to turn a few $'s.
She still has a few good years ahead of her.
Beside needing a good polishing, the hull looks really good.
Paint the hood, cover the seat, fix the mechanical ailments and it would be a decent ski.
I can't see parting something that isn't destroyed.
No sense in killing off something in decent shape.
I need to finish up on my '97 SPX and get my double trailer painted and roadworthy.
I want to put hydro turf on my '97 and my GTXL.
Then I will get started on the '96.
Only thing missing is the solenoid, start switch, and start switch/ vts switch housing.
Then I will look into the motor and see how bad off it is.
Bet I will be giving SBT a call before its all said and done!!!
