I had problems with it "walking" up the driveshaft, scrubbing speed. I removed it and never looked back. --Jeremy

Remember, i started with the 185 platform. I started with a Solas 13/20, where the nose cone walked twice, when ?i started researching it. First time was a couple days before Mudbug 08. I got it back into place, and made my radar run at 63 mph (i think) which was the second time it walked. I removed it and have never installed one since. Since the 13/20, I have upgraded to the RXT driveshaft , ECU, etc. and the 14/19 with no cone. Now, many mods later I am at a 15/20 with no nose cone.

Do a search...there is a thread about removing the nose cone for gains. There is some theory, which I am not sure has been proved, that the lack of a nose cone forces the water to the outside of the prop. I don't know.

    Found it!

I have to admit, It hink there is another thread where Jerry mentions something about some fast skis, or a race team, or something do not run nose cones. I can't quite remember. Something to that effect.

I know that most dont run a nose cone.

I am one of the few that has never had a problem with the nose cone coming loose and walking up the shaft. I will say that you must have a good rubber gasket or the nose cone will not stay tight.

I think maybe that some are loosing there gaskets or that they are falling off when there removing there props.

I dont know, but I have never had a problems so I will continue to run one.
I run the blue R and D nose cone on both skis.

I know it is hard to see, but here is a picture (taken from the first page of my thread...lol) showing the nose cone off the impeller about 1/2" to 3/4". This was scrubbing my speed...about 3 MPH at Mudbug last year. Caused me all sorts of panics too...lol.

Yes, sorry, my bad choice of words.

it is the o ring that comes on the green nose cone.

I have noticed that the o ring is very fragile and will break if not careful. So I think most are loosing there o ring and i can assure you that the nose cone will not stay tight without the o ring.

But with o ring i have never had any issue, knock on wood.
