How is the single bar R&D intake grate?

I was going through my box of parts that I received with the ski, and found a brand new single bar intake grate...it says R&D. Checked their website, and it looks like they do offer one...how is it, and is it safe to use? Ski currently does 76mph, but I'm betting its the hull holding it back. All it has is a stock R&D ride plate for hull mods. Yeah, I know about the SS grates and I may buy one in the future...I need to plan out what I'm going to do with this ski...I don't really want this thing to turn into another money pit.

    all ski's = money pit

as for the single bar grate, i love mine in the surf and open water, hookup is wicked.
you will loose -1mph swapping from dual bar to single but the hookup is worth it for rough water use.

    +100

I have read on here that some people have had problem with them breaking at high speeds but my boat runs 80+ and it has had one for like 6 years and never had a problem. And yes the hook up is crazy good.

I have never heard of the single bar grate breaking

if you use one with an aftermarket rideplate I would suggest you do the pump pressure relief mod

I thought that was why they started casting the SS grates? I swear I read somewhere about grates breaking. IDK, its early, I am a little slow this morning. Forgive me if I am mistaken.

But yeah single bar all the way.

Single bar 1200; double bar 1200; double bar 800. All different grates.

try doing a search in the 2 stroke and the how to sections

(it is only the double bar R&D nad Riva grates that have a bad habit of breaking)

Thanks for the replies! So I take it the single bar grate saps a bit more speed than the 1200 double bar does? I plan on doing the pump pressure relief, but I don't have the 2" spacer that most have. I'll have to come up with something. I really like the Jet Works style relief...clean, no cavitation, and simple.
