    Tstat mods...

i am going to be putting a lower temp Tsat into my ski this spring, doing the simple mod.
i was going to use a 158* Tstat, but now i keep hearing about 131* tstats from RotaxRacing???
    should i swap in a 131* instead?
any downside to a cooler temp Tstat?
and has anyone ever found an aftermarket Tstat that fits that is that temp??
i know there are several manufacturers making a 158* for like $20
if we are going as low as 131, why not just leave the tstat out of the housing all together, for a free flowing closed loop cooling system. in warmer air and water conditions like we mostly ride in i doubt the rideplate could cool the engine much cooler anyways.
anyone done a closed loop cooling system without a tstat installed????
i bet it still gets hot!! unless the water and air are 50*

I just installed a 131 because I didn't have a vertical hydraulic press to convert my stock tstat to the 158 Riva kit. I figured that either renting a press to do the work myself or paying someone, like Riva, to put the new tstat in my original housing would cost close to $100, thereby making the grand total expense for kit + labor to assemble equal to ~$300, or roughly the cost of the 131 tstat. I now also have a spair housing assembly and stock tstat - just another positive for the 131.

I'm no expert by any means, however i thought you might be interested in how i rationalized my decision, since it seems like you're going through the same process.

    Regards,

    ok i found out,
no Tstat is BAD. not enough coolant going to oil cooler, destroys engine, as per HOSS.
so which is better 131 or 158? does it depend on level of mods?

gawd what a PITA, starting to think there was a special order put in for some custom 131F(55C) Tstats that match our fitment.
several are close, but nobody has anything in stock to do a dry fit.
if you ever looked theres like a billion Tstats out there!!!!!!!!
anybody got a rotax they are willing to pop open???
part# would be stamped on it for sure...

Thats what I did. Gotta love it. I took the inlet nipple out of another thermo housing. Pushed it against the floor and it snapped into the housing off my ski.
