Would you say this is a scam??
So I am selling a surfboard on craigslist and this is the response i got a couple hours ago. Would you say this is scam??
His initial Email:
I am really interested in buying the item you posted on.I want to know
if it is still available.I'll be paying by a Cashier or Certified
check and my mover will come for the pickup at your door step as soon
as the check clears,so kindly send me your full name to be on the
check, full address, zip code plus your cell phone#,and you will have
the payment as soon as possible. The money to be sent to you is
($3,000) will include that of the mover and some other items,so you
will just deduct your own amount and extra $50 for your trouble and
send the remaining money to the shipping company via moneygram, you can
contact them via this email address
(firstname.lastname@example.org) to confirm this. The reason for
check is cos a client is paying me what she owes me and i am always on
the move, that is why the shipping company will take care of everything
after you deduct your own money out of what was sent to you.thanks and
waiting to read from you asap.
Please Explain why you would send me a Cashiers Check or Certified Check for $3000 When all you would owe me is $250. This sounds like a scam to me, please explain how it is not or come up with a simpler way to go about this and we will make a deal.
all i have to tell you now is that there is no problem with that cos you are having a legit check with you and you will have to deduct your own money which is $250 and the extra $50 for yourself... and the reason is that you will have to send the remaining fund to mjy shipper who will come for the pick up after the confirmation of the funds... and that is all my explanation and i hope you got me right... all i need from you now is the information to send the payment to so that you canh have the tracking# as soon as possible and i want you to cosider the item sold for me and take it off craigslist so as to avoid disturbance... i will be waiting for the information noww. o.k..... thanks
Definatly a scam, why would someone send me a check for 3k and tell me to deposite the entire thing then send someone else a check. You would think these people would be able to come up with a little better sceme than this.

I think he meant 300... because in the follow up email he says 250 + 50
Im a paypal only or a cash and carry kinda guy. If I have no other choice, Ill take a postal money order but thats it.

It is a scam. Waste his time by having him send you a check and give it to the police or postal inspector. Later when he emails you tell him you never received the check and have him "cancel" first check and send another. Its all about wasting his time and stamps. String him along as far as you can. Would be funny to send him a fake check but that may get you in trouble.
