    951 Intake manifold question

    I currently have my 951 out of my XPL to do a top end, motor mounts, carb rebuild, starter. Im doing a mild build (proks,jetted carb,15/20) should i shave down the stock intake manifold? i heard from some people there is some gains by doing this? Anyone have some thoughts on this? stock carbs too btw.

    I heard spacing the reeds away from the crank helps but I'm not sure about reducing the manifold length

    Do a search on shortened intakes. There were some discussions about this a while ago.

    Wasn't it exhaust and not intake?

    Spacers were to make the Moto Tasani Reeds last longer. It didnt help much with power just evened it out. Shaving the intakes in combination with the reeds and spacers was being tried but I think it did little. You can by an R&D manifold and stuffers but I didnt see enough of a hit from that to justify the expence and the intake is aluminum and could in the tropics (Florida ) cause a hot start issue, Put some carbon Tech reeds in and leave the manifolds alone INMHO
