    Mineral oil or synthetic?

    1996 XP 800-
went to the dealership to check on oil and was told i HAD to run the synthetic xp-s (yellow jug) that is $46.99 a gallon. i was then told a bit later by an ex-mechanic that i could run the xp-s mineral oil (white jug) that my buddy runs in his 95 Xp 720.
is it ok to run the white jug instead of the full synthetic? thanks

You need to run a Synthetic Oil that is API TC.

The difference is the 720 does not have RAVE valves and 787 does. The synthetic is a low ash formula to prevent fouling of the RAVEs

From what I understand, you can run regular oil, but if you do you'll need to clean the RAVE valves more often.

If you have a Sea-Doo engine with rave valves you need to run a synthetic API TC oil.

ok, so i was able to order some BRP synthetic and save $10 a gallon via the internet instead of the dealer.
since the old owner ran regular quiksilver, do i need to clean the rave valves or just drain all the old out and replace with the new and not worry about cleaning them?

You need to change the oil filter, and drain the old oil out. Clean the tank too. Different oils can gel when mixed together.

The main reason for the synthetic is the HP the 800 engines make over the non-RAVE engines. Synthetic is used to increase bearing life, mineral oil sufficed on the 720 engines. That said, Amsoil Interceptor is a superior synthetic oil over XPSII, and cheaper too.

I run Amsoil Dominator in my modded pre-mix skis.
