    xl1200 reverse?

how hard is it to change out the reverse cable in a 1999 xl1200? I was going to take it to the stealership but they want 73 for the cable and then 225 to install it. I know it runs along the bottom of the hull from what i can see but for 225 bucks I might be willing to brave it out. lol if anyone has any experience with this let me know please.

it takes 1/2 hour I remove the front bracket and then remove the cable from it the cable is held on at both ends with quick connectors so just move the spring loaded collar and they come off the receiving ball lastly undo the inner transom cable packing and retention nut ans slide the cable out
    the back of the ski!
mine were 98's yours doesn't appear th have the bracket just retainment at the area 43 but anyone can do this

oh and check boats.net for less than oem prices on oem parts
they have your cable for 59$ ,, make sure you grease the heck out of it specially the end that sits under water

will do that sounds great. they were quoting me for 2 hours of labor i just wasn't sure how hard it would be to run it under the motor since it seems tough to get to. i am just starting this hobby. thanks for the advice.

just keep note of the path it follows or tie a string to it when u pull it out so you can pull the new one thru the exact same route

yeah it is always easier when you have a pull through to follow. thanks again. def saves me 225 bucks

Definately don't hesitate to do it yourself. I've done it once outside in the dark at 10:00 at night, took me about 15 minutes to get the cable out. It came out so easy I don't even remember how I did it, just unhook the quick disconnects on both ends and go from there. I think I pulled mine out of the hood rather than by the pump..
I was able to salvage my reverse cable...are you replacing because it is broken/weakened or bent by the pump? If you pull the reverse gate enough at faster than idle speed you can actually bend the cable by the gate, if you're lucky you can bend it back, lube it up and be good to go.
