Installing Stern Tow hook
Was thinking of adding an emergency hook to the stern of my 02 gpr12. While looking at possible places to drill and backplate, the flat boarding area just forward of the yammy spout provides a doubled layer of SMC and a flat underside to backplate. But this would result in a low pull angle. Another possibility is directly under the grab rail, which is also accessible but more difficult to re-inforce. The tow angle seems to be better here, though.
I haven't seen how rescue craft are rigged, but what is the consensus on the these two areas for a tow ring? Have any of you added one to your gpr's?

IF it helps you decide..
GP's tow hook is set about 3 inches above the deck surface, centered on the seat platform.... smc
The WR's dual hooks also lock the seat down so they are set high...fiberglass
IMHO, stay away from the high mount (would just pull the nose high, steer like #@&% too) .. use as low a seat platform surface you can get to, centering on that double smc plate and use a dual backing plated bow eye ..
I'd rig a removeable float system, like skiers use on outboards and change your deck bushings to metal.... they dont break easy like plastic would .

When I wanted to tow something with my GPR, I used a couple of the straps they use to tie down motorcycle to a trailer.... nylon straps about 10" long, loops on each end... put one end through the tie down holes on the back deck of the GPR then through the loop, then hook a ski rope with 2 clips on each one. No mods had to be done to the ski, I was sure it wouldn't pull anything loose there, and it didn't drag the nose out of the water.

Or you can carry an extra set of OEM tiedown straps and a make or buy a tow rope with a hook on each end.
The OEM tie down straps utilize the strong mounting area where the tiedown pins go in the rear of the hull.
Then attach the hooks that normally goto the trailer to the end of a tow rope and the other end of the two rope to the ski you are towing
no drilling.....utilize what ya got

RX, thats where I'm talking about using the motorcycle straps.... looping a strap through each hole. Stick one end thought the hole, slip the other end through the loop, and you have a strap on each side about 8 inches long. Wont come loose, wont pull through.

My 2000 XL1200 has one factory mounted just below the handle, sort of like ABBOTT has done.
