    Engine alignment tool questions

I just got done rebuilding a 96 slt780 and then I started reading about engine and pump alignment. I did not see any spacers or washers on the motor mounts. How bad is it to run the ski without being aligned properly?

Does anyone know where I can buy the shims(washers) or where I can rent or buy a alignment tool?

Contact user beerdart on this forum.

The tool may be available for rental.

If the alignment is off a little bit, it may not matter.

If the engine to jet pump alignment is out by too much, then you risk excessive wear of the drive splines at one end or the other of the drive shaft, engine coupler, impeller, or some combination.

I think I can align it without the tool, does anyone have any spare shims that could send me, I just need a few to raise the front of the motor.

    You can make them.

Beerdart posted the specs somewhere here.

You need the tool to do it. You'll never be able to align it by sight.

If not aligned, you'll get vibration and premature wear of the engine coupler, drive shaft, thru hull bearing, impeller and wear ring.

Beerdart listed the tool specs in the tech section if you have a buddy with a machine shop.

If not, try renting the one Beer has. He includes shims with the rental.

I've go one I'll sell you $135.00 with 10 metal shims, not plastic washers.

This tool will work with box SL skis and extended hulls suchs as the hurricane.

simply made one for my genesis. used 22mm copper water pipe. slowly wraped insulating tape round. to make nice fit in coupler, looked at rear pump housing hull fitting, with ruler, checked to see if in centre, shimed and moved mounting to fully centralized, worked for me
