    testing my vts ?

i have a 96 xp 800 and my vts motor loks like a barnicle. assuming water came in through the gear shaft that adjusts the nozzle. i push the vts button, and i hear a click. i'm wondering how i can test to see if its just the motor, and not the actual module? and does anybody have a motor and gear assembly ? thansk !

Unplug the wires to the motor and apply 12vlt power to them (pos on one, neg on the other). If it is still bolted in you need to be carefull not to overtravel the VTS. You only need to hear it move a little to know if it can.

    +1 on the fuse too.

fuse is good. the motor is seriously garbage. but i'm wondering if the water could have gotten into anything else ? there is a sealed moduel back there, and i'm wondering if there is a way to test it. i might as well just wait and get a motor for it since thats the first obvious problem. anybody have one for sale ?

If it got to the motor it was in the box. Normaly the box will pop the fuse if it has an issue, but not always. The limit switches can fail which will lock it in the up or down position.

Leave the cover off the box so it can dry out.

I may have a motor, let me take a look.

I have one out of a two plug VTS box. The '96 XP used a three plug box, and the part number is different but I am pretty sure they are the same motor (SD changed part numbers as lot over the years).

It is in great shape. Say $100.00 plus shipping (in US please) if you want it.

well my motor is a two plug. do you have just the motor, or the entire vts box for a hundred ?

There are only two plugs on all the motors.

There are two boxes. One with three plugs into the main harness and one with two. They both have the same number of wires.

This is for the motor alone.

gotcha. that makes more sence. i might have a motor that will work that i picked up cheap. just seeing if theres a better deal out there. anyone heard about the nissan wondow motor (or something like that) that is the exact same motor and gear drive as the xp vts motor? there was something floating around on here about that i thought.
