new throttle, now it redlines at start up?

Finished getting everything on the ski that I have accumulated over winter. Started it up first with the stock bars and thumb throttle. Started great but was idling high around 3000k rpms, figure it was cuz I touched the throttle adjustment. Swapped over to the aftermarket bars and finger throttle, started it up, pegged out at red line, quickly yanked the key. WTF... has anyone had this problem and/or know what I did wrong or how to fix it.

I dont understand what would make it do that.

Make sure the drum at the throttle body is against the stop. I think you have it adjusted to tight.. you want some slight slack in the cable. Remove the cable at the drum and see if it runs OK.

i had the nut come loose from the throttle cable mount and it jams itself in a groove on the throttle body on a 07 RXT.. while it wasnt at 8200 rpm, it went to 6000 straight from start up it was damn scary when you dont expect it.. the throttle felt the same with regards to tension... it wasnt until i took the coolant bottle out in the middle of the ocean and saw what was causing it... fixed it with the on board seadoo tool kit but i came loose about 1/2 hr later again... and did the same thing... used red loctite on the nut when i got back home and it has been fine for around 14hrs now.... its a 10mm nut by the way...

    hope this helps....
