04 waterbox vs 01 waterbox
What is the reason for the addition of a box sized chamber welded to the side of my 04 1300r waterbox ? I noticed today that its not round like my 01 1200r . It made changing the trim cable a royal pain

i am thinking it's because of the backpressure changes that were needed when yamaha increased the 1200R to the 1300R beginning in 2003.

No, it was to keep water from going into the exhaust chamber and frying the catalytic converter. In addition it does increase back pressure and actually will give you some rpm's.

i really cant say for sure, but doesnt seem to cause any problems. with minimal mods this is a 72 mph ski. i'm going to be swapping props soon to get a more target rpm, and then after that, i will swap back in the 1300 waterbox for a back to back and post results
