Newbie to the forum: *just* bought two 04 RXP's from MI... some quick questions-
Hey all! I've been reading through your forum over the last week or so and love the energy and friendliness! I just drove up to the northern tip of michigan to pick up a clean set of 04 RXPs.
They both have 62 hours on them.
The yellow one is all original. When I bought it yesterday I ran it for about 1 minute from a cold start, started fine but it sounded just a little more "mechanical" than the green one. As if bearings of some sort were starting to wear. Could be normal but the green unit is a little quieter.
The green one (and I quote from the auction)
"The Green one had a timing chain failure which destroyed the original motor, it was replace by a remanufactured SBT motor which has less that three hours on it and it runs like new. It has 61.9 hours on the chassis but only about three hours on the motor. It also has the RIVA Sea Doo Power Filter Kit with a K&N Filter, Riva Top Loader Intake Grate and Riva 2 degree pump wedge. The original impeller was replaced with a Solas R Series Impeller. This unit is a little better out of the hole and runs a little stronger. The VIN Number is ZZN42266C404"
I have 12 years of experience as an audi tech so I'm well familar with audi's but clueless when it comes to jetskis. I did have a couple 99 Seadoos (GTI and XP) from 03-05 but didn't do much in terms of work on those.
I was told that both of the machines still have the ceramic washers in the superchargers. I'm debating whether to just go ahead and rebuild both the units myself, or preferably what I'd really like is to find someone here local in Milwaukee or Chicago area that can spend a paid day to show me how to rebuild one and also show me all the regular item maintenance on these such as winterizing, prep for the summer, changing an impellor, wear ring and whatever else that may need to be done within the first 150 hours. Does anyone know someone in the area? Is there a list of regular maintenance that needs to be done?
Also are these run on a 6 volt battery or a 12 volt battery?

12 volt systems... get those chargers rebuilt ASAP!!! I personally would be a little concerned (alot) with the one that has the SBT motor in it

Welcome to the Hulk. I think a few people have had bad experiencs with SBT engines, but to be honest, I'm not sure. I've never encountered one, so I have no info. I'm sure others will chime in soon.
