I have an intermittant knock sensor failure once in a blue moon with my 04rxp and it does not effect engine performance it only triggers a stored code in the computer which triggers the check engine light to come on.

Sensor refers to depth, air temp or water temp. I suspect that either the air temp sensor (under the hood), the water temp sensor (part of the speedometer unit on the by the ride plate) or depth finder (which shouldn't be turned on) are the problem... Ron

Yeah, i do not have that connected. but i was worried that it may something else that is caousing that. to go off. thank you for that.

So when the knock sensor goes bad all that will happen is loss of power? and do i need the update at all.

If the knock sensor fails, you will get a Check Eng alarm. I can't tell you the code number, but you can look it up here. Since the knock sendor is basically a microphone "listening" for knock from the engine, the test is for it to measure so many ohms of resistance to be good... Ron

According to the 2007 Service Manual, you should see around 5-Meg ohms between the two terminals. But if it's knocking on the trailer, and not under load, I doubt if it's a bad knock sensor. Pumps have a tendency to make a lot of noise ont he trailer... Ron
