    Pro 785 Impeller

Last summer I picked up a 1999 Pro 785 with 10 hours on it. Sometime in its short life the previous owner managed to ingest a rock or two. I can see how easy it would be to do that with the R&D intake grate.

I rode it a few times in late september before it got to cold. The RPM's were at 7850 and the speed read 62.3. Its a pretty rough ride at speed but dont mind. Also cant help but feel like it has more go left in it.

I am looking for some feedback on what other 785 owners are running for impellers.

I do not mind sacrificing a little holeshot for a few more MPH up top and an extended cruise range. I was considering a Solas concord 13/19.

Also, any advantage in going with the Concord over the 3 blade x-prop?

    Thanks

    Welcome to the Hulk!

With the small fuel tank in the Pro 785, I don't think you will be able to do much in terms of extending the range.

If a larger capacity fuel tank could be made to fit, I am sure someone will mention it.

You might consider carrying an external fuel container on the back. There are several ways to hold one in place.

What condition are the jet pump stator blades?

You should also to check the pump/stator wear ring for wear.

What is the current clearance between impeller outside and wear ring surface?

If you haven't seen it yet, click here for Polaris Service Manuals.

Thanks for the welcome and the helpful link. I have been on here for a while, more of a lurker. I will have to take pump and stator out and check for wear. When I get a chance this week to take a look I will let you know what I find.

    Welcome to the Hulk CR250.

The PRO 785 came with 2 different impellers. Skat Trak 12/17 or a Nu Jet 5.0 I believe.

Why so interested in the Solas?

It's pretty important to keep the RPMs near the 8k range for the triple pipes.

My best guess would be a modified Nu Jet for top speed.

See what Polarisracer has to say. Also talk to 785 Lugs for suggestions. He's got a modified 785 that is running near 70 MPH. And don't forget to talk to Randy at watcon.com, he's the PRO guru.

By the shape of the impeller blades I would guess it has the Nujet in it. No real reason to be set on Solas, put one in our SL650 a couple years back and it worked well. Plus they seem to show up often in good shape second hand.

The engine seems to come on the pipe pretty hard around 5000 rpm, I wasnt looking to load it up with too much pitch, maybe keep peak RPMs around 7650.

70 must be a fun ride on the 785 hull. Even around 55-60 I was getting a bit of chine walk in the chop.

If your pro is stock, those RPMs and speed is about right. My 99 had a 13/17 prop.

If you knock down the RPM's you will blow the motor.

On a stock boat i would go with a stock 12/17 skat trak theres not much better

That's what I meant, 12/17, not 13/17. The 99s seemed to rip. My stock class 99 Pro 785 was winning in the limited class (the limited broke many times).
