Id check the ground on the bottom of the motor. it may have some corrosion/paint/ what ever on it. re check the battery terminals for the same and is the little black ground wire from the black box connected? also I'd unscrew the boots from the plug wires and check for corrosion. if there is I'd trim them back and reinstall the boots. if thats not it I check the spark on the plugs. Did he mess with the carbs at all? adjust the screws or anything?

dont think its the carbs becuase after it kills and try to start it it barley clicks like the battery is dead but its new. will pass on the info on the grounds thanks
