    01 seadoo rx vs. Yamaha 2000 gp1200r

im looking to buy either an seadoo rx for 1500 that needs minor carb work done with 180 hours on oem engine, never rebuilt. Im also looking at a gp1200r with 103 hours in perfect condition, the guy wants 2800 for it. which would be the better ski as far as riding 2 up, which handles better? which has the better hole shot, and top speed. i have a 98 xpl right now and i want something that looks sporty but still want to be able to cut up with 2 people without getting thrown off of it every turn. i was leaning toward the rx being i know the 951 engine head to toe and know what to look for in terms of maintnance. any input is greatly apreciated thanks

They are both good boats with similar performance. The yamaha will suck down alot more fuel and might not be as good 2-up. Being that you are familiar with the 951 I would probably go that way but I'm sure you will get many different opinions from others.

GPR all the way, I'm not a fan of Seadoo 2 strokes any more.

If I remeber right thats the first year GPR with power valves. Not a good year. The revlimiter closes the valves in choppy conditions its slows down a lot. Also it has a catalitic converter and if its still there I would change to a Dplate and a temp chip. Also
The GPR needs to be ridden and a compression test done or you can get screwed with a power valve tearing up a piston. Also if it doesnt have a pump stuffer kit it needs one. They also have no tow hooks on the back. Just a few of the things I have seen alot of on the GPR.. The GPR has nicasil cylinders walls they dont rust but they wear through around 220 hours at the top and are a bitch to recoat. I have torn many down. The 951 is easer to rebuild and IMHO the RX is a better boat. Rx will need fuel lines replaced and carbs done. Doo is cheaper for parts also

well guys thanks for the info, and i went pick up the rx today!!! heres some pics of it, it starts right up but he says it bogs down when taking off so i didnt even bother trying to run it without first cleaning the carbs and replacing the fuel lines. all i needed to see it do is start. it has 237 hours on it and from the looks of the inside, its been well taken care of, no missing or scarred bolts so its never been apart, all original engine. i picked it up for $1500!!! Is this a good deal because the book value on nada is 3600 i think. the hull has a few scratches at the bottom but nothing else. should i redo the top end or if the compression checks out good should i not worry about it? thanks for the advice.

If the compression checks good leave it and get rid of those grey fuel lines! Rebuild the carbs and you'll be good for another 237 hrs! Nice score for $1500.

I would have offered 1400, and spent the extra hundred on a new camera. LOL

I think thats a fine deal. I just sold a 01 RX with a brand new rebuild.

I like Danno's boat the best, i rode one that had a coffman race pipe 110 octane fuel, skat 14 vein and the carbs had something done to it and that boat hauled serious ASS! I have always been a fan of the gsx's not 98 1/2 though LOL
