Oil change help
I need to know if the skinny o ring just under the lip of the filter cap is really necessary because mine broke removing the cap. The one that slide down in is fine. HELP!!!!

Take it to a good hardware store and match it up. You don't want any leaking at the oil filter housing... Ron

that skinny o ring is not a neccesity. you can run without it.
it is not the main seal.
the main seal is the thicker o ring down inside.
if you happen to find one great, if not dont worry about it, order a oil filter kit that includes o rings, and just put a new one in next time.

I figured it wasn't very important but i got 1 anyway. I found 1 of those seadoo 6.00 o-rings at a parts store for 12 cents. It's amazing they can doo that. Thanks for the replies.

You need to sell them on eBay for $.48/each and make a fortune... Ron

I broke mine on last oil change but had no chance to get a new 1. I just put some non setting sealent around on the cap. Has been fine for me. R88

I have not had that ring on for more than 3 years now ... no idea why its there, it does nothing at all. The sealing is done by the bigger ring, the top one seems useless to me (no oil leaks ever without it on).
