There are no cons really. It is common knowledge that the ignition systems are weak. When I installed mine and nothing else, set at stock, my idle rpm increased over 50 rpm. That's how much hotter the spark is.

    Anyway...I'd highly recommend one.

that is impressive. so you noticed a big improvement in over all performance ? you gain any mph out of it ?

No speed increase, at least any to brag about, or to justify buying one for. It's benefits include easier starting, better idling, better low-end throttle response, and better low-midrange power. Also better fuel economy.

96XPSS can probably confirm this but I was reading that it disables your DSS. The cheapest I found new was $299 at Summit. That's a lot of bucks!

300 is about right. I see them used for 250 sometimes. Havn't seen many around in a while...

Not sure if it disables your dss but i don't like that feature if so...oh well...

Doomeister is right. But...you can swap the wiring over to a 96 MPEM , as my 97 XP is converted and wired this way. It's not easy, lots of custom splices. But you can retain the DESS if you are willing to spend the time to do so.

Cool. I'm sure there are ways of defeating DSS but its probably a lot harder than having a generic yama or polaris glorified cotter pin key. I know my ski isn't worth much money wise, but the time I have invested in it is ridiculous which makes it worth a lot to ME.
