looking for a new ski... found some.

I found one for $800 with a trailer. its a 1997 xp. the problem is that it will start but the impeller doesnt move, anyone know what could be wrong?

another is a 97xp for $2000 says it runs good

another is a 97xp for $2700 in better cond than the other one

or i could move up to a 2000 xp for $4000

    or a 99 xpl for $3800
or another 99 xpl for $3800 with a new motor and solaris impeller

i guess i have some choices, i hear that the 97 are funner riding because they are lighter. My other ski is a 91 kawa stand up and i want another to ride with the girl. Last year i test drove a kawa 900 2 pass and a seadoo 780 i think 3 seater and the seadoo left the kawa in the dust. I dont really want to spend the money for a XPL but if it is worth it in the end by being a better ski overall i will.

those are not bad prices...the only thing that could be wrong with the first one is the splines on one end of the drive shaft are stripped. either in the PTO or the prop.

XPL is not a real good ski to ride two up and the '97 is underpowered on top of that.

On the one that the prop does not turn it may have lost one of the drive line couplers and the center shaft fell out of spline. This would be easy to see if the PTO cover is off of it. There could be some broken stuff in there too, you just have to look.

IMO, an RX is a much better boat for someone who wants to take two and still can have some fun by yourself.

so im guessing the motor or pump got mis alligned and the splines just wore down... I will have to take a look at it. What are the years of rx to look for and how much do they run?

i also figure for 800 i can sell the trailer for 350 and im only in it 450

I would not buy a 97 XP. They have the 800 motor in it and not the 951 like the 98+ XP's, which makes the 97 the slowest XP.

97xp junk, they fill with water all the time when you wave jump. Look for 96xp-97-99 spx with the 800 that is your best bet.

Also don't get the 97xp that has the worn splines, if it is the pto that has the worn splines that is a bitch to get off, you will have to heat up the pto and use a 1/2 breaker bar with a pipe as leverage, but if you heat up the pto it can ruin the crank seal that is in the rear and then you have more problems.

wow, the 97 is almost 100 pounds heavier than the 96. Thats alot when you think weight to power ratio... I think i will get a 96. My trouble is finding them, there is no local ones or within 500 miles and only like 5 on ebay across the country. I guess i will be patient. What are the other differences between the 96 to the 97 and maybe even the 99 xpl? Thanks

96 to 97 has a completely different body style. The 96 has the X4 hull, and the 97 went to the shock seat and a different hull. I have never ridden a 97+ XP, but I hear that they feel very front heavy due to the engine being near the front, not centered.
