    Dumb first oil change question...

I will be changing the oil soon and was wondering how much oil to expect to drain out of the filter when it is removed? I'm doing my best to keep everything as clean as possible and want to be prepared. I'm assuming the majority of the oil drains back into the engine when off for a bit, but I've been wrong before.

Thanks, Skip. I've actually read that already, the one thing I didn't see in there, or anywhere so far, has been how much oil to expect to leak. Would it be just a few teaspoons or so worth? Also, thanks again for helping me out last year with the recall parts on the ski.

Leak from where, the oil filter area?

Minimum if your has been drained first. Even then it sit above the oil sump area which would cause for vary little oil to be in that location.

Yeah, mainly from the filter itself. I just want to know what to expect since I can barely see the thing as it is, haha. Didn't know if there were any check valves or anything that would provide me with a nice surprise when I unscrewed it.

    Thanks again,
    Chris

Even if you drain it 1st a little will spill. I just wad up a few paper towels and place them beneath to catch the drips. Its not a ton but some will spill out.
