    Steering Systems

I had a question about the UMI steering systems. If I was to install one on my 99 GTX, how does the info center buttons/handlebar cover deal work? Are they compatible? would this look like a "sleeper" UMI setup, or would I loose my info buttons? Any ideas? Thanks!

I'm not sure if anyone has ever installed UMI on a GTX hull? You would have to fashion your own switch/mount for the info center switches, I bet.

I lived outside Cleveland as a child. Where is Marblehead...BTW?

I LIVE in a suburb of Cleveland, but my fam has a weekend place up in Marblehead. Right on East Harbor. It's between Port Clinton and Sandusky. Right over the bridge.

What part of Cleveland were you in?

Anyways, back to the thread topic... I see UMI makes a system that allegedly fits a 99 GTX. perhaps a little modification/fabrication is required, but I'd be ok with that. I would rather have the information center than a slick set of bars poking out.

I lived in Twinsburg, Solon, Garretsville, and Ravenna. My father still lives in Macedonia. He retired from the Chrysler body stamping plant in Twinsburg.

I grew up within walking distance of the lake in Lorain and Vermilion. Did a lot of boating on Lake Erie as a kid.

    Sorry, off-topic,

Why dont you extend the stock handle bars approx 6 inches wider either side that way the original shroud and info centre still works. We do all the xpls with this set up as they offer great protection with the stock padding in place when jumping waves. Not one head injury as yet.Cant say that about UMI stuff, broken jaws, head 's gashed open , loose teeth, depressed skulls nasty stuff.

We insert solid aluminium rod into the existing bars and then set them up with stock RXP grips.

I do like the idea of the stock info center and padding, but I was looking for something that would perform better. I do kinda like your idea about extending the bars out, and maybe even changing them. How did you attach the bar extensions to the existing bars?
