    Head cover question...

    Ok, I have a 1200 engine in a ski that I just got where someone took the head covers off. The pistons look good as well as the cylinders, so I am not sure why they where removed. My question is this, is there a gasket between the head covers as well as the three o-rings, or is it just the 3 o-rings...I can't really determine from the service manual.

    Also, the head covers weren't labeled and I don't know which ones came from which head, will I need to do anything special as far as planing or machining to insure proper seal?? Really I am just try to do a compression check to assess what shape this one is in.

    Thanks.

    No gaskets, just o-rings. You can mix and match the covers, no machining needed.

    Carburetor 1200 engine - correct?

    Which Polaris year and model?

    I have a vague recollection of some domestic engines having a different head on certain cylinders - just don't recall which ones

    But I do think the cylinder head covers are all the same...

    The 1200 used the same heads on all cylinders,you could check the part #,7 digits on top of the head,kinda on a ridge.
    The heads will be stamped with an "E" and "X" ,that will point to the exhaust.
    That deffinetly is strange that they removed the heads for no reason,I agree -you should do a compression test.

    K447= the 97 1050 had different heads

    Arrow Different stock heads on the same engine... 1997 1050, 1999 Genesis Ficht 1200

    The 1999 Genesis Ficht also had a Service Bulletin issued for PTO head change (Kit PN 2201651), along with an EMM re-map ("to improve engine durability").
    Affected HIN numbers PLE00036G899 through PLE09946F999

    I don't know if the actual part number for the replacement PTO Ficht cylinder head differed from the original (although I would expect so)
