Thread: Impeller Cone

Just fitting my Rude1 and a 15-20 that that has had a tweek from the Man Jerry. Is it worth leaving the impeller cone off.
All the ones that i have ever fitted end up the drive shaft. What are the thoughts on this.

Fresh water: remove it
Salt water: keep it.
Sometimes the nose cone walks up the driveshaft and scrubs speed. BUT, not having it it in saltwater could lead to the driveshaft and impeller rusting together. If you ride in saltwater and can flush or remove for cleaning, then that would be best. --J

Alot of people have had them come loose but I for one have never had an issue. You can use some loctite but the most important is that you have a O ring. I tighten my up by hand as tight as possible and never had one come loose.

Steve, Jerry told me to notch the threads of the nose cone with a flat head screw driver in three places around the threads of the nose cone and use some loctite on it. I used 638 wich is semi permanent you will need heat to loosen this stuff. Mine has been in place for a few hours of running now. I would not run in salt without it. R88
