Low RPM mode accidentally enabled, or possible a SC clutch failure?

Could be as simple as the pipe come off the supercharger. The one between the SC and the intercooler.
Mine came off this weekend with exactly the same result. 5500 revs and 50mph, but running perfectly.
    Fingers crossed

dude....sounds like the clutch...pull the air intake off and see if the wheel will spin both ways...
that is exactly what my ski did...

How long do you think it will be before Yammi releases a TSB or recall on the clutch? Ever?

If cases are identified under 'normal' use on machines that have not been modified I think it is possible that Yamaha could bring an updated part in 1 year or so. If at all... However, I am not sure what can be done to improve the part. If you simply make the cluitch stronger or of harder material then you affect the part it rides against as well. Best action at this time, get a good BOV whether you are completely stock or not...
