    SL 750 cracked piston

Hello All... I have a 94' jetski that cracked a piston and scored a cylinder... I am wondering if you guys have any recomendations as where to buy a rebuild kit with piston and gaskets??? I would like to buy a used cylinder somewhere but they are hard to find sometimes... thanks for any help guys!

Is this the same engine you were asking about in this 2007 thread?

Click here for useful information, including the 1992-1998 Service Manual.

Was the engine fogged since the problem happened?
I am thinking that sitting so long, there is a possibility of rust in the crank shaft bearings, which are steel.

Have you opened the engine up enough to confirm that the crank shaft and connecting rods are not rusty, and the bearings still turn smoothly?

John Zigler is a well regarded source for used parts.

Follow the links from this page for a listing of other parts sources.

John is a great source for parts.

But, there has been ALOT of parts on Ebay for cheap.

The piston kit I like, would be a WSM piston kit. Usually from the Ebay "stores" section is the cheapest.

If the piston cracked, there's a chance the engine ingetsed water and hydrolocked.

You need to verify the bottom end is still good.

Inspect for a rusted crank. And check the crank index too.

Yes, this is the same machine that I posted about in 2007... I was unable to work on it last year due to $$$$. I am thinking that it is a hydrolock issue since it was tipped over and there was water inside the hull if I remember correctly.... The jetski is still in storage right now, so I am just getting some parts that I know I will have to have right now... I did get some used cylingders/pistons from a guy on here so they are on their way..

If there has been moisture inside the engine, then the crank shaft will need to be rebuilt. You will need to send it to a rebuilder, since it requires special equipment and knowledge.

The rebuilder will disassemble the crank sections, then install all new bearings and seals. A couple of crank rebuilders are linked from the service manual web pages.

When you remove the flywheel prior to sending out the crank shaft, check for water damage inside there. The starter motor and Bendix may also need attention or replacement if they have rusted.

The non-cracked piston rings may have rusted, in which case the piston rings should be replaced, and that cylinder honed.
