Why some of you are removing OPAS?

    The topic is the question...

    Any improvements? Speed, handling?

OPAS is training wheels for newbies that don't know that when you let off the throttle you can't steer.

OPAS can also be downright dangerous as you go over chop or boat wakes one of the paddles can grab tossing you off.

Your ski will track much better over chop/wakes and handle like it's 200 pounds lighter once you remove it.

If you remove OPAS you will also want to install a intake grate.

I would love to improve handling on my rxp, how difficult is it to remove the opas?

Look under the rear of your boat when it is on the trailer........right in front of the pump you will see an elongated opening with what looks like two straight bars. THAT is your intake grate. The performance grate will have a small, upsidedown "wing" on it to keep the pump loaded with water,or "hooked up" when you are riding in chop..

As for removing the OPAS,Riva and PPG both offer block off plate kits to plug the openings left when you remove the OPAS system. It is pretty easy and straight forward to remove OPAS,IF you have a little mechanical ability.

Instructions come with the OPAS Kits. There are also some detailed instructions published on this website. If you decide on the Riva Top Loader Intake Grate, we sell them for $110 and the Performance OPAS Block Off Kit is $73. I don't think you will find a lower price anywhere else.

Good luck with your new ski and Ride Safe !

Boat Addict; They retail for $299.95. We get $262 for them. Have a list of guys wanting them and Riva has been promising delivery "any day" for the past couple of weeks...but we still didn't get them. If you want to be put on the list, send me an email.

    Thanks,

    Richard

do you absolutely have to buy a new part to put in place of the opas wing when you remove them?? or you can leave the hull as is?

also i dont see what the intake grate have to do with the opas... isnt the intake grate the grill where the water enter the propeller?

The intake grate will improve the "hookup" you ski will have in a chop... when you remove the opas the ski will feel "looser" on the tail, the aftermarket intake grate greatly reduce the effcts of connection loss on tighter corners where the opas would have helped before.

If you don't block off where your OPAS was your ski will quickly sink as there will be big holes left where the OPAS bolted up
