want to build a custom-tailored ski

I am new to this forum and I have enjoyed reading many of the posts. I am interested in building a ski that is tailored to me. I love working on projects. I would like to make a ski that will accelerate hard and jump well. I just need some reccomendations for a platform to build off of. I have a limited budget to start out with though, say $1500 (a non-running ski that I need to do a little work to is fine with me).

are you into standups or a sit down?
standups are alot more palyful, but theres a few older sitdowns that are really fun.
1 person riding or occasional passengers??
riding a lake? the ocean? smooth water? or lotsa chop?
how big and tall are you?

I'll be riding the local lakes
    I'd prefer a sit down as I have already resurrected a stand-up
I'm about 6'5" and 240. (I know this isn't really condusive to jet ski riding but I enjoy it anyway)
And will I ride solo almost always as it gives me more freedom to enjoy what the ski can do. Thanks for the help!

96 XP would be my top choice, but you being 6'5 could make things a little interesting, Im only about 6' so maybe some other guys who are taller could chime in. But the 96 XP would be a great platform IMO

I'll second 96 XP. It's a dirt bike in the water.

Craigslist has worked the best for me... Secondary sources would be Ebay and Local car/motorsport trade mags.

look for a 96 xp, or 97 to 99 SPX, same exact ski. be warned it is a much smaller ski than the newer ones, tippy if you lean to far over, not tippy like a standup, but it will tip over. however it is an extrememly fun ski, fun like a standup but comfy like sitdown.
you need to find this ski with aftermarket handle bars, UMI setup. this will give you the extra height in the bars to make the ski much more comfy for a tall guy like you.
shoudl be able to find a running xp spx, for around 2000. 2500 with mods and good condition, 1200-1800 good runner, slight signs of wear and tear, but easily reconditioned cosmetically.
keep in ind a 2003 2004 much larger 4stroke ski can be had for 4000 - 5000 dollars in good condition and cosmetical good also. not as agile playful a ski, but a great cruiser and fast fun also...

if you want somthing very nimble, accelerates very fast, has decent economy.............96xp platform all the way. cheap to buy, cheap to fix, parts are abundant. also the sea doo HX was kinda neat but not really a trickster...it has a shock under the seat kinda like the newer xp does, very slinder, very tippy but a fun ride thats for sure!!!!

there are some more "vintage" type sitdowns or should i say, somewhat of a sitdown, not near as powerfull but very nimble and very fun to ride...............the kawasaki X2 and the yamaha wave blaster 1 are good choices, you see lots of freeriders choose that platform as well.

i own the 96xp, 95x2 and 92 550sx and one huge water couch to fish off of.
