    Photography

I'm really a big fan of still photography. I'm still learning technique, lighting, and the framing, but I'm having a blast with it.

What subjects are you shooting, and what sort of stuff are you using to shoot with.

Currently, I use a Nikon D40, D300, and I picked up a D700 last year for some low light work. I keep a small canon pocket camera in the car, and sometimes my D40 is hiding under the seat for quick pics. My primary lens is a 70-300mm lens. I find it keeps me AWAY from the subject, which provides less abusive treatment of the photo's subject. It also lets me get close to the action better than a short prime lens, and it's cheaper than a fixed long prime lens. I havent settled on a wide angle lens yet. I'm shooting the 18-200 on the D40 quite a bit.

I usually shoot pics around the house, garage, and friend pics, in hi-rez jpg. If I'm doing lots of high speed action or tough lighting pics, I shoot in NEF RAW for greater editing abilities later.

I keep a TON of pictures (but not all) here.

Ok Mark (HydroToys) told me to post up some stuff, not sure what that means but here goes i will follow his format.
After smelling and dipping my hands in D-76 , fixer and using an enlarger to make real prints I graduated college.

Started in newspapers after college in 91-98 that was fun cowboys, travel, and news, dead lines , shooting one quarter of High school football and then rushing back to print the images, freelanced for Ft Worth Star-Telegram 98-2001,(now transmitting Images from the local neighborhood un-protected wifi connection or the parking lot). Then on my own as a Photojournalistic Wedding Photographer.

Use canon only cause it was what I bought in college and just never switched around, Currently use a pair of Mark IIs cause I dont chase the latest and greatest. My arsenal includes mostly fixed length lenses as I like the closer focusing distances, 20mm 2.8, 28mm 1.8, 85mm 1.8, a macro, 70-200 2.8, and the sharpest lens I ever owned 300 2.8. Currently expanding on my lighting Knowledge and playing with some cheap barndoors that fit on my handheld flash with the new pocket wizard system.

Oh met jerry for the first time and shot the banner you see on this website LOL, as well as the last two Mudbugs which were featured in 3 Magazine layouts.

About 3 years ago (after 6 months of gathering intel.) I decided on the Panasonic (LUMIX) FZ50. I was basically looking for a Prosumer digi cam. with good optical zoom (12x), anitshake and could shoot unlimited digital vids while changing the zoom range. The Panny FZ50 does it all, and more.

I mainly shoot in "idiot" mode, but am able to make great captures. I have dragged the camera underground (my other hobby is caving) through mud, dropped in on rocks, slipped it underwater and it keeps on shooting. Earlier this year I surpassed 10K pix.

About to buy my first DSLR... can't decide if I'll go with the Cannon 450D or get the updated 500D... I can get some good deals on the 450D and and looking to get just a 17-85mm Lense rather then a twin lense kit... hope this will be a good starting ground, then get something better latter on...

A shot taken in the south of France a couple of years by my wife snapping road sines as we drove past... Quite funny in Australia as Cans has a double meaning... Cans is also a slang word for breasts...

Auto, I mulled over 2 cameras for a few months before deciding. This website became an invaluable tool in helping me decide:

    http://dpreview.com/

On the upper left, check either the buyers guide or the database for more info. I think you can do a side-by-side comparison to help you select what is right for you.

Good luck and I hope this helps,
