The findings from an oilless running motor...

    Well,

I have been asking what my options are after my friend ran my ski for a prolonged period while the low oil light was coming on and the motor was turning off....he is persistant...he kept starting it, and starting it...here is what the motor says..

Was his name Guil Tee? I have to admit, I changed my oil one winters day and forgot to add oil. When I put the ski in the water, I idled up to the dock, tied it up and checked the oil. Guess what, no oil. I only ran it at idle for maybe 5 minutes and never got an Oil alarm. I guess I was lucky, but you know what happens when beer is involved. That was 4 years ago... Ron

I ran 20 miles with 2 quarts down...that leaked out through the pto bearing.
Mechanic said there is actually 7 quarts of oil in the engine...running 2 quarts low did not hurt anything. You should be okay.

    Hi rxpwhistler1,

Did the engine seize up and no longer want to start/turn over? Because I'm not seeing anything out of the ordinary in these pics... except for #1 running slightly leaner than #2 & #3, which is common.

If the engine slowed to a stop or stopped abruptly, then the lower end will show the real damage.

Let us know what you find,

    Jeff

The engine didn't just stop abruptly. It just stalled I believe (I wasn't there, I was on a boat a 1/4 mile away from the ski) and he tried to keep starting it and making the damage worse. Idk too much about how things should look. What I know are two things:

    1. Engine developed a knock and there was metal shavings (fair amount of thick metal paste) in the oil filter

    2. The top of the pistons look awfully dark to me....I mean they are black

The head looks ok from what I know. I think I may sell it and buy a lower end? I mean idk what else to do here..

I think you should check the bearings and scavenger pumps, that will tell you more.

zRaXcPk Gets it. You guys arent looking in the right place this aint no 2 stroke. The Damage will be on the Crank Main bearings and Rod Bearings and thats were your going to find the knock. A Crank is going to run over 1K and you will need to completely tear it down and check and clean the whole thing. oil Pumps will be damaged also and maybe the SuperCharger. You cant see it but you screwed. I ran an engine for 3 seconds with no oil pressure on plane and the crank was trashed.
