    Need a 951 engine lesson

My friend has a 2003 RX DI and the warranty just expired. He has approximately 200 hours on it. I know that 951's are known for putting rods through the cases and it has something to do with the counter balancers. What can he do to prevent this?

The DI's aren't as prone to failure, because of their lack of high rpms. He does need to change his c/b shaft oil though.

How difficult is this to do? He just got it back from the dealer with a clean bill of health but they didn't suggest doing this.

That plug is about as under the pipe as it can get.

Then you have to figure out how to get the old oil out and the new oil in.

So how do you get the old oil out without pulling the engine?

ok, true the pipe is in the way a bit. but you can get a long handled allen wrench inbetween the pipe & the block to remove it. I use a syringe, not a needle style but go to a pet store and get one with a long snout, they use them to give dogs .cats and even babies meds. might try the baby section in a store. heck Mike you got kids I bet your wife has one she used for baby meds. use it to suck it out!. not much in there and being the engine is slanted I would tip the ski to the side/making the engine level to get it all out and more back in. use a synthetic gear lube to refill, maybe amsoil, thats what I use.

We have syringes for the kids, but not with the long snout. How much oil is in there and how much should we be putting back in.

I did poke around Seadoo.net for answers and this is the only thing I came up and it is from 2002:

I am surprised there isn't more discussion on this since so many 951's seem to "explode" from this problem.

Maybe JayZ and him can both do their machines when we are down at Norris. I will worry about keeping the beers full. I did enough wrenching last year.
