Exclamation Seconds to 1/8 mile- SEVEN SECOND SKI?

During the Hydrodrags I stop-watched some races. Here are the results:

    1. Most Hydro limited skis= ranged from 8-9 seconds.

    2. Most Unlimited skis= ranged from 7-8 seconds.

    Does the above sound right?

My Blackberry stop watch, my location on the drag strip, and state of mind from drinking may have skewed these results, therefore was wondering if that sounds right.

If so, Dan's and the PR's boat are SEVEN SECOND SKI's!!!!

We were clocking Howards boat less then that. My boat has been clocked in the 6s but that is without a starting gate that holds you completely still, only idle speed.

So that sounds about right since you lose a little time in the starting gate.

That seems low? What will a 13 second 1/4 mile car do in 1/8 of a mile?

Probably in the low 8's maybe 7.9X. My datsun z car runs 6.20 in the 1/8th mile at 104mph which is 9.80 at 136mph through the traps, the monte carlo ss ran 7.45 in the 1/8th mile which is 11.70 at 115mph. Reason that it is not a good comparison is that the cars are still running and building mph where I believe the ski is pretty much topped out at the 1/8th mile.

From what Duke said my time may have been off a little. It's interesting that nobody else posted any 1/8 mile time. I think that is just as important as the speed you get to in that distance. Or maybe they don't want to post......

I think to be competitive in the Hydrodrags you need to be:

    Stock class= 8 sec
    limited class= 8 sec
    Unlimited class= 7 sec

    Time to beat= 6 sec @ 90mph

Get your stop watches out before you sign up for the next drags.......

Curious as to why they don't use floating timing lights like we do in APBA drag boat racing? In that channel it would be a snap since it is so close to shore. Then there would be no doubt as to speed and time and the winner in close races.

+1.... time and speed in 1/8 is what the fans want to see.

and I am sure it's what the racers want to see as well ........

The multiplier for cars in drag racing is 1.57. Take the 1/8 mile time and multiply by 1.57 to get a very good estimate of 1/4 mile time.

    Ex: 9.0 x 1.57 = 14.13 or 8.0 x 1.57 = 12.56 or 7.0 x 1.57 = 10.99

All that said, I agree with dr hunt on this issue.

You will need a ski that can do an 1/8 mile from idle in 4 seconds to win.
